Eye Exam Services

How long has it been since you've had your vision checked? Maybe you are great at going to your dentist every six months, and maybe you are even consistent about your one-year health exam with your family doctor. But, when you think about it, perhaps it has been way too long since you've had your eyes checked.

if you have never worn glasses before and you are around forty years old, or even younger, you might find that your eyesight is not as good as it used to be. Maybe you have realized that you are squinting in order to see things better. Or maybe you are holding the book you're reading as far away as possible in order to see the words better. Even more of a problem might be present if you are having a huge problem reading road signs.

Maybe you have worn the same glasses for a long time. Your personal finances and your limited time because of work or personal obligations may have kept you from getting an eye exam. In fact, maybe you have ordered glasses online, just using your last prescription for your order.

Whatever the circumstances, consider making an appointment for an eye exam as soon as you can. Here are some of the things you can expect when an eye exam is performed to determine your problem.

  • the reading of a simple eye chart
  • complicated tests where high-powered lenses show the minuscule structures inside your eyes
  • a cover test on each eye that might detect a problem like "lazy eye" or eye strain
  • a depth perception test
  • refraction and retinoscopy tests to determine the prescription for your glasses or contact lenses

During your eye exam, feel free to ask any questions you may have about the technical details your doctor shares. Your doctor should be able and willing to clarify any information he or she gives you. If you have been having headaches or eye strain, bring this up, as it could be something your doctor can help fix.

The eye doctor might tell you that you don't need glasses at all. Instead, maybe he or she will determine that you have extreme eye dryness. If that's the case, he or she might give you a prescription to help your dry eyes. The eye doctor might suggest that you use some of the over-the-counter products which are excellent and less expensive than prescription drugs.

Perhaps your eye exam will reveal that you have glaucoma. If so, your doctor might prescribe timolol maleate ophthalmic solution.

No matter what you find at your eye exam, think of scheduling your next appointment before you leave the office. That way you might be more likely to be consistent in having your next eye exam.
