Two Tips To Help You Maintain The Health Of Your Eyes

Posted on: 25 July 2017

When your eyes work as they should, you likely don't give much thought to them.  It can be quite easy to forget how wonderful it is to have eyes capable of seeing all of the wonderful colors of the world around you.  However, if you want to enjoy that ability for the long haul, there are a few practices you should begin right now.  It's never too early to start learning about ophthamology and caring about the health of your eyes.  Use this information to learn more about a couple of things you can do to protect your eyes from damage.

Remember To Switch Your Focus

If you have a job that requires you to stare at a computer screen for hours on end, you might not realize that this isn't necessarily the best thing for your eyes.  It's important for you to make a conscious effort to not only periodically look away from your computer screen, but to intentionally look at something at a distance.

Understand that you want to ease the strain on your eyes that can occur when you're staring closely into the screen of your computer.  Although it's certainly a good practice to purchase a screen shield and fix it to your monitor, this may not be enough.  You're going to have to do a conscious exercise if you want to keep your eyes functioning at their optimal level.

A good practice to incorporate into your daily routine is known as the 20-20-20 rule.  Approximately every 20 minutes, gaze at an object that is about 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.  This is long enough to break the reverie that you may have lulled your eyes into and gives them a chance to relax.

Sunglasses Are About More Than Looking Cool

People wear sunglasses for a number of reasons.  Some like the way they dress up an outfit, while others may believe it adds to their mystique, boosting their "cool" factor.  However, sunglasses are designed to shield your eyes from the ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun because the rays have been linked to eye damage.  You want to make sure that you always wear sunglasses when you're going to be out and about on a sunny day.

You have what it takes to protect your eyes from unnecessary damage.  Start following these tips right away so you can enjoy eyes that function the way they are supposed to for as long as possible.
